Dyson Airwrap flashes red: how to fix it?

The Dyson Airwrap is a revolutionary device in the world of hairdressing. It has become an essential in many hair routines. However, like any electronic device, it can sometimes malfunction. A common problem is when the Dyson Airwrap automatically shuts off and starts flashing red. In this article, we are going to explore the possible causes causing the red flashing to appear and see together the steps to follow to solve the problem quickly and efficiently.

Why does the Dyson Airwrap stop and flash red?

Automatic shut-off and appearance of flashing means that the device has detected a malfunction significant enough to endanger its safety and performance.

In most cases, the flashing red on the Dyson Airwrap is a benign problem which can easily be solved by yourself. It is in fact a safety signal put in place by the manufacturer to indicate to you that its filter is too dirty to maintain device performance. At the same time, airwrap curling iron cuts to prevent overheating which could potentially damage heat-sensitive internal components.

In rarer cases, the Dyson Airwrap may flash red due to a defective internal component. Many components can be the cause: motor, electronic card, thermal fuse are the main culprits. In this case, the repair requires in-depth electronic skills.

Blinking red light: how to fix the problem?

In order to fix the Dyson Airwrap flashing red issue, it is important to check multiple items. Here are the steps to resolve this issue:

Clean the Dyson Airwrap filter

To repair a Dyson Airwrap that turns off and flashes red, the good news is that in most cases the fault is easily and quickly repaired on your own. You simply need to clean the filter of the device.

Why Ariwrap Dyson stops and flashes red?

Indeed, the filter prevents the dust and dirt present in the air from penetrating inside the device and damaging the internal components (motor, electronic card, thermostat, etc.). However, over time, dirt accumulates on the filter and interferes with its proper functioning. Dyson then set up a system capable of detecting the drop in efficiency of the filter related to its fouling. When this security is activated, the Airwrap automatically turns off and signals the origin of the failure by flashing red.

Note that a weekly maintenance is recommended by Dyson. So if you have never or very little carried out this maintenance, it's a safe bet that the flashing comes from the filter.

To clean the Dyson Airwrap filter, we invite you to follow the steps below:

  1. Unplug the device from its power source and wait a few minutes for the device to warm up again if you have used it recently.
  2. Clean the filter grid which is located at the base of the Airwrap by moving from bottom to top and from left to right with the filter cleaning brush until the dirt and residue are removed. Remove the cleaning brush from the device.
  3. Hold the handle of the device firmly and pull the filter grid downwards by sliding it along the power cable, then gently opening it in half at the opening provided.
  4. Wash the filter cage, and therefore the removable part, under warm tap water.
  5. Shake the filter to remove most of the water, then let it completely air dry.
  6. Then clean the filter (metallic gray part located under the filter grid). To do this, use the cleaning brush and make vertical movements. Proceed with this manipulation until all the dirt has been removed. Caution: Never use liquid (water, detergent, etc.) to clean the filter.
  7. Replace the filter grid on the handle by rotating it clockwise to correctly clip it. Check that it is in the correct alignment and correctly locked.

Note: If you no longer have the Dyson cleaning brush, you can gently remove any dirt on the filter using a dry, soft, lint-free cloth, microfiber type, and/or with a clean toothbrush with soft bristles.
