Dyson Airwrap stops on its own (problem and solution)

The Dyson Airwrap is an innovative styling tool, designed to revolutionize hair brushing. However, sometimes it can stop working in full use, for no apparent reason, and quickly cause frustration. In this case, it is important to know what to do in case of a cut to avoid further damage and extend the life of the device.

This article will tell you the most common causes of the Dyson Airwrap cutting off and will provide detailed steps to easily diagnose the problem and fix it quickly.

Why is your Dyson Airwrap cutting itself?

First of all, when your Dyson Airwrap shuts off automatically, do not try at all costs to turn it back on to prevent further damage and prolong the life of the device. Before attempting to use it again, wait until the problem is resolved. To do this, you will need to identify the origin of the breakdown in order to resolve it with the right means.

Indeed, there are several reasons that can explain the cut of your Dyson Airwrap device. Here is the most common causes :

1. Overheating problem. The most common reason for your Dyson Airwrap to stop mid-use is because the device overheated. This is all the more likely if you have been using it for a long time or have never cleaned the filter. In this case, the device shuts down to prevent potentially serious damage to the device.

2. Electrical problems. If your Dyson Airwrap won't turn on or it shuts down on its own, it may also have an eclectic problem. Electrical problems may include a poor connection to the power outlet, faulty wires, poor contact, or a short circuit.

3. Bad use. Improper use, such as holding the unit by the cable, using it continuously for long periods of time, or not cleaning the filter regularly enough, may cause damage, overheating, or performance issues and, as a result, lead to automatic shutdown of the device.

4. Manufacturing defects. Sometimes the cut can be caused by a manufacturing defect, which means that the device was not manufactured correctly and requires repair or replacement. In this case, the breakdown usually occurs quickly after its purchase.

Diagnose and fix Dyson Airwrap that no longer works properly

We invite you to follow our troubleshooting guide in order to allow you to quickly and easily diagnose the problem yourself and resolve it effectively.

Check that the Dyson Airwrap has not overheated

First, check that you haven't overworked your Dyson Airwrap. Avoid using the device for more than 20 minutes without interruption., especially if you are using the highest temperature, as this can cause overheat the engine of the device running at full power.

Dyson Airwrap cuts itself out due to overheating

It is recommended to use the device for 15 minutes, then to wait 2 minutes, the time for the motor and the components to come down to temperature, before using it again.

If you think the fault may be caused by overuse of the device, wait about ten minutes before attempting to turn your Airwrap back on. If the device turns on again and the power cut does not reoccur, the problem was most likely temporary. On the other hand, if it shuts off again or won't turn back on after waiting the specified time, proceed to the next troubleshooting steps.

Clean the Dyson Airwrap filter

The main reason why a Dyson Airwrap stops on its own is because its filter is too clogged. Indeed, when it no longer fulfills its role as a barrier, a sensor detects it, and automatically switches off the device to avoid overheating which could damage internal components or a drop in performance of the device which could interfere with your use.

This cause is all the more likely if your Dyson Airwrap cuts out and starts to flash in red or White. These light signals put in place by Dyson make it possible to indicate that the filter is too dirty and that it is time to clean it.

Likewise if you feel a burnt smell before the device stops. Indeed, when the filter can no longer fulfill its role, dust can penetrate inside. In contact with the resistors (heating components), the dirt begins to burn and the smell of smoke appears. In this case, there is nothing serious. But the filter must be cleaned to restore normal and safe use of your styling device.

It is recommended by Dyson to carry out a filter cleaning once a week to ensure proper operation of the Airwrap. This delay can be extended if you only use it occasionally. However, we advise you to do this at least once a month, because even when you are not using the device, dust can accumulate on the filter.

Check the connectors of the hairdressing tool

When your Dyson Airwrap stopped working or shut off in the middle of use without turning back on, the problem may also be with the electrical connection.

Dyson Airwrap not working anymore

The following points should then be checked:

  • Check if the electrical outlet works.
  • If you use strip ou extends, remove them and plug the styling tool directly into a working outlet.
  • Check if the power cable is not damaged (stripped, cracked, cut, etc.). If you have electrical skills, you can test it to make sure it works properly. If it is damaged, replace it (about 65 euros) or have it replaced by a professional.
Tip: Avoid wrapping the Airwrap's power cord too tightly around it when storing it, as this can damage its internal connectors.

Contact Dyson Support

If unfortunately the Dyson Airwrap still does not work properly, there is a good chance that the problem comes from a faulty component. If it does not light up, it may be the on/off switch or its connectors. If it turns on but does not work or stops automatically, the problem may come from a bad contact in its connectors, the motor, the thermal fuse or even the electronic card.

In any case, we advise you at this stage to call on the Dyson customer service. An adviser will then be able to help you find the origin of the breakdown and/or tell you the best repair solution.

Also note that if the fault appears within the 2 years after purchase, it can be considered as a manufacturing defect. In this case, you have the right to guarantee to obtain repair or replacement free of charge.
