In the first part, learn the different causes that can lead to a problem with your decoder. Then learn how to repair the malfunction that is preventing your Canal + decoder from working.

Why does the Canal + decoder no longer turn on?

When your CANAL + decoder no longer comes on or does not come on when using for the first time, whether it is the 4K-UHD decoder, decoder + The Cube or the Mini decoder, many causes may be responsible:

  • Bad connections
  • A software bug in the decoder
  • A faulty remote control
  • A hardware failure on the decoder
If your Canal Plus decoder turns on and then turns off, read our article on this subject in by clicking here.

First of all, make sure that the fault is indeed from the Canal + decoder and not from the remote control by following the following operation:

Depending on the model of your decoder, does the ignition button, the LED or the decoder display light up when you press the remote control? If this is not the case, try pressing the Power button (or one of the buttons) on the front of the Canal + decoder. If the decoder is switched on with the decoder button, the Channel remote control is probably defective. If the Canal Plus decoder does not start, the problem is indeed there. It can then be a software bug, bad connections or a hardware failure.

Also be aware that if no lighting appears on your decoder, the problem certainly stems from a bad connection or an hardware failure. On the other hand if the LED or the display lights up, the fault is most likely due to a software bug. Then proceed to the operations below to find the exact origin of the problem and try to repair it.

Please note: If the Canal + decoder does not turn on the first time you press on the remote control button, this is normal. Every night, the decoder performs maintenance and updates if necessary. When it is first lit the next day, it then takes a certain time to wake up (sometimes up to 1 minute). After the first press on the Power button on the remote control, wait 5 seconds then press the Power button again. Then wait 1 minute before pressing a button again.

My Canal Plus decoder no longer turns on, what should I do?

Check the decoder connections

First of all, if you have just installed your Canal Plus decoder and it does not turn on, check them connections. Likewise, if it stops working, one of the cables may be damaged. Then carry out the following checks:

  • Make sure all connections are properly pushed in their respective port (power cable, HDMI, hard drive, etc.).
  • Check that one of the cables is not damaged (damaged, stripped, burnt, or melted). This could prevent the current from supplying the Canal + decoder.
  • If you use a strip, remove it and plug the power cord directly into an AC outlet. Indeed, multiple sockets can cause electronic interference and interfere with the correct operation of the decoder.

Electrically restart the Canal + decoder

If the connections are correct and the CANAL + decoder still does not work, the problem can also come from a minor software bug. In this case, a electrical restart allows you to restart the system and remove any bug. The electrical reboot operation consists of:

  1. Disconnect the Canal + decoder from its power supply
  2. Remove then reinsert the card into the decoder
  3. Wait about 2 minutes
  4. Reconnect the decoder to its power supply

The decoder should restart and initialize for a few minutes. In principle, it should then turn back on. If it doesn't and it doesn't turn on automatically, try doing it with the remote.

Reset your Canal Plus decoder

If your Canal Plus decoder no longer lights up and does not give any sign of life even after the electrical restart, it will then be necessary for you to reset. The reset resets the box parameters to zero. Thus, it allows to remove even the biggest software bugs and malfunctions which can impact the operating state of the decoder.

Please note that resetting the Canal + decoder restores all the factory settings. So be sure to unplug your external hard drive if you use one to avoid losing all your recordings.

Note: Here we see the procedure for total reset because it does not require access to the box menu or to the TV screen. She therefore suitable when the Canal + decoder no longer works at all. If you have access to your decoder interface, then do the partial reset first. Discover the procedure by clicking here.

For reset your Canal Plus 4K-UHD decoder that does not turn on, here is the manipulation:

  1. Turn on your TV
  2. Switch off the Canal + decoder using the ON / OFF button on the back of the box

  4. While continuing to hold down the - button, turn the decoder back on with the ON / OFF button
  5. Release the button - when the pairing screen or the “Channel logo” is displayed on your screen

If you have a + Le Cube decoder that no longer works, the operation is similar except that you have to press the P + button instead of the - button and that you have to release the button when the screen displays the scrolling banner " INST " or " FA: Ct ».

If you have a problem with your Canal + Mini decoder, here is the procedure:

  1. Switch off the mini decoder with the ON / OFF switch located at the back of the box
  2. Switch on the decoder with the ON / OFF switch
