Epson printer does not turn on what to do

What should I do if my Epson printer stops working?

Your Epson printer no longer turns on? It sometimes happens that feeding problems explain the concern. In this specific case, some basic operations on your part may be able to bring your device back to life. Then follow our guide by proceeding step by step to try to restart your printer without calling on an external service.

Power problem

It is very likely that a problem in the feeding process is the reason why your Epson printer does not turn on anymore. In fact, in the majority of cases, a printer failure results from the power module, an essential component for it to function properly. In rarer cases, it may also happen that a malfunction in the power supply circuit interferes with the correct start-up of your printer. To verify this, here is the procedure to follow.

First, make sure the power cables are plugged in and your power strip is turned on. Indeed, sometimes small careless mistakes can simply be the cause of the problem of an Epson printer that no longer turns on.

Then, to check the power circuit and the power module, do the following and in order:

  • Disconnect your Epson printer by first unplugging the cable from the wall outlet, then the one at the back of your device. If your printer is connected by an external power supply, carry out the same operations but also disconnect the cord located on the external power supply (black box which is located between the printer and the outlet).
  • Test that the wall outlet is working properly. To do this, plug another electronic device into the same wall outlet.
    • If it does not turn on, the problem is with the wall outlet. Then plug your Epson printer into another working wall outlet.
    • If it comes on, continue with the instructions.
  • Test that your power module is functioning correctlyt. To do this, leave your Epson printer unplugged for at least 60 seconds. Then, reconnect the cable to the back of your device and then the one that is on the wall outlet. In case you have an external power supply, also connect the intermediate cable. Note: Your Epson printer should not be plugged into a power strip to prevent other electrical or electronic devices from interfering with its proper functioning.
  • Then check if the lights on your Epson printer come on.
    • If an indicator lights up, try to start your device. In case it lights up, you can stop troubleshooting. If it still won't turn on, the problem may be with a faulty power cable.
    • If the lights are still not working, your Epson printer probably no longer turns on because of the power supply module or a defective part.

In cases where your Epson printer still does not turn on, then follow the following checks and operations.

Power cable problem on your Epson printer

When your Epson printer no longer works even after the operations seen previously, it may happen that the problem comes from a faulty power cable. To verify this, here is the procedure to follow:

  1. Check that the power cables are securely connected to each connection.
  2. Connect your Epson printer with another compatible electronic cable.
    • If your printer works again with the different power cable, the problem is with the original power cable. Then replace the defective power cable.
    • If your Epson printer still does not turn on with the new power cable, it is very likely that a larger component failure is the cause. In this case, all you have to do is call on an external service.

How to solve the problem if despite everything your Epson printer does not turn on any more?

what to do when your Epson printer stops working

When your Epson printer no longer turns on, and after having attempted all of these manipulations, it is highly probable that the failure is too important so that you can solve it on your own.

Indeed, electronic devices have a relatively limited lifespan, and it therefore happens that after several years of use certain parts wear out and end up giving up the ghost, causing a general failure of your printer. In this case, you have several solutions to resuscitate your defective printer.

First of all, check that your Epson printer that no longer turns on is no longer under warranty. Indeed, if you have recently purchased your printer or if certain conditions of sale appear in your sales contract (insurance, extended warranty, etc.), you will certainly be able to obtain an advantageous repair service. For that, contact the store that sold you your Epson printer. If this option is not viable, you can still call their after-sales service. After an expertise and if the failure is proven, they will repair or offer you a replacement.

When your Epson printer stops working, you can also appeal to Epson customer service via their website. They can then possibly determine the origin of the failure of your device and you provide a personalized solution.

Finally, you can contact a repair shop specializing in electronic devices. The prices are often cheaper there. However, pay attention to the quality of service and spare parts used.

  1. Hello,
I bought an Epson XP2017 printer in 345 in preparation for replacing my Epson SX435W if it ever broke.
Not breaking down but encountering print sharpness concerns, I still decided to set up the XP345 which printed 2 sheets and STOPPED WHILE I WAS USING IT !!!!
I never managed to restart it and is no longer under warranty (4 years storage in the attic).
Cord and wall power tests have been done.
Are there other people who have experienced this same problem as me?
    Thank you

    • Hello,

Unfortunately, humidity, high heat, or dirt and / or dust may have damaged some electrical components. The battery may also be dead if you are using the printer wirelessly. Indeed, the batteries end up being completely discharged, even without being used. If it is stored at 0% for a long time, it may go into a state of deep discharge and eventually fail. You can then try to change the battery.
However, from a distance it is difficult to make a diagnosis. This is why it is advisable to go to a professional repairer, to assess the equipment and see if the printer is repairable or not.

      Good luck !

      • Hello,
Unfortunately the failure is most certainly due to a component that failed. We recommend that you contact Epson after-sales service if your printer is still under warranty.
        Good luck.

    • Hello,
same for me. After a fault message (the ink pad is full) the printer worked 2 or 3 times reminding me of the fault and the next day no more power on. It looks like planned obsolescence. Being an electrician and a confirmed handyman, I decided to disassemble the printer and check the power supply. it works very well since it gives me an output voltage for the printer's management card. therefore, it is indeed a programming of destruction of the machine.

    • Hello,
Unfortunately an internal electronic component must have broken down so overnight it no longer works. In this case, you can try to contact a repairer to ask him for an estimate of the price of the repair and according to make your choice…. Cordially

    • First try removing the ink cartridges and paper. Check that these two elements are compatible with your Epson printer. Then, put them back and turn your printer back on.
Then try resetting the network settings: after turning off the printer, press and hold the network status button, then press and hold the power button until the green and orange WiFi lights flash alternately. When the green and orange WiFi lights turn off, the reset procedure is complete. Then try turning the printer back on. If that doesn't work, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the printer drivers and software on your computer. And if it still doesn't work, contact Epson support for further help.
