My Steampod is no longer making noise, what should I do?

When an electrical appliance that emits steam is working normally, it is completely normal for it to make noise. Indeed, a motor and a pump are integrated in the straightener to allow the water from the tank to be sent into the pipes, and therefore, into the heating plates which then transform it into steam. In addition to hearing the motor and pump running, you should also hear the sound of water circulating and changing in the mechanism. So when your Steampod no longer makes noise, it's a safe bet that the problem comes from one of these elements. Discover the solutions to try to fix this problem.

What to do when your Steampod stops making noise?

When your Steampod hair straightener turns on but no longer makes any noise, the problem most likely stems from its pump and motor which are broken. It could also be a fault in the electronic card, although this is rarer.

Important : Note that if you hear the sound of the engine coming from the water tank, but that he produces more vapor or very little, the problem may be due to a pie accumulation. Also note that if the plates of your straightener stay cold, the problem may come from their resistance. In these two cases, we invite you to read our article: My Steampod is no longer steaming, what should I do?

Then, to find out where the failure comes from, you will have to test the components. These manipulations are reserved for people with electrical clearances because there is a risk of serious electric shock. Specific equipment is therefore required (gloves and antistatic mats). In addition, the manipulations require dismantling, measuring with a multimeter, soldering and replacing the components. If you do not have electrical skills, you simply risk irreversible damage to the device (short circuit). Therefore, if you are not suitable for handling, then call a professional.

Note: If your Steampod that no longer makes noise is still eligible for warranty, contact the Rowenta after-sales service immediately, without disassembling the straightener as this would make you lose your rights.
Steampod no longer makes noise what to do?

Test the pump and motor

When your Steampod hair straightener no longer makes noise, the problem usually comes from the pump or its motor which are defective. Indeed, these components make it possible to circulate the water by turning or pumping mechanically. They therefore produce a mechanical noise on the straightener. When they no longer work, you will not hear any noise and you will also not see steam forming.

To verify that the pump is working properly:

  1. on the Steampod 1.0 and 2.0, unplug the tank from the power socket, open the water tank by removing the screws located on the underside and then remove the casing. For the steam pod 3.0, unplug it from the power source, disassemble the base that supports the water tank by removing the 4 screws.
  2. Reconnect the power to the device, being careful not to touch the electronic components.
  3. Check if the pump motor rotates by closing the two plates against each other. By transparency, you should see the engine running. If the pump motor does not spin, runs jerkily, or water is ejected only a few centimeters, the pump is probably faulty. It will then have to be replaced.

You can either buy the pump as a spare part and replace it on your current water tank, or buy the whole tank if the part is not available.

Test the Steampod electronic board

Si your Steampod no longer makes noise and no longer works (no longer lights up, no longer heats up, or no longer produces steam), it's a safe bet that the electronic card is defective. Indeed, the electronic card manages the power supply and the information transmitted to the other components. If it no longer works properly, your entire straightener is at risk of malfunctioning.

To electronically test the card, you will need to open the water tank of the straightener (Stampod 1.0 and 2.0) or the central part of the straightener (Steampod 3.0) then test the input and output voltages of the card with a multimeter set to voltmeter . The card's input supply voltage should be approximately the same as the card's output voltages (about 220V). If the output voltages are not correct, then the card is defective and it will have to be replaced with a similar reference.

What to do if despite everything your Steampod no longer makes noise?

If you are not competent for the manipulations or if you have not succeeded in diagnosing the origin of the problem, we recommend that you contact a professional technician. Indeed, the problem can also come from a faulty connection or from the power cord if the device does not turn on. In all cases, the technician will be able to carry out a more in-depth and more personalized diagnosis according to the symptoms of the breakdown.

If your Steampod straightener that makes noise is still entitled to warranty, call on Store after-sales service retailer of your straightener or Rowenta after-sales service. Note that the manufacturer's warranty extends to a minimum of 2 years in France. You can also contact a Rowenta authorized service center to find out if they can pay for the repair.

If your hair straightener is no longer under warranty, you can either contact an independent repairer or contact a brand repair centerNote that without warranty, you will have to pay the repair costs. So don't forget to ask for a quote because sometimes it's better to buy a new straightener.
