Why is your Samsung charger making noise?

Different factors may be causing strange sound to be produced on your Samsung charger. The noise can come from a natural phenomenon but also be the symptom of a malfunction which will then require a intervention on your part or on the part of a professional.

Noise related to a natural phenomenon

Buzzing, whistlingsizzle… Although the noise you encounter on the charger is disturbing and sometimes disturbing, it may be due to a natural phenomenon and therefore quite normal.

Indeed, a charger is made up of different electrical parts and among them is an essential part: the transformer. This component transforms alternating current into direct current. To put it simply, when the current flows through the transformer, a vibration is created and causes noise that you hear. In principle, the sound should be relatively low and therefore should not disturb you. In this case, you can continue to use your Samsung charger safely.

If you are using a fast charging charger, be aware that it is normal for it to make more noise than a conventional charger because it delivers more power over the same period, and as a result, the sound waves are amplified. Also note that a noise may appear if you use a Samsung wireless charging cradle. Very often this will be a humming or high pitched sound such as an ultrasound. This noise is the result of the magnetic field which is created by coils in the base to transmit the charge to your smartphone.

Note: Even though you just got your Samsung charger, know that a manufacturing defect can cause this noise to appear quite quickly, and sometimes even from the first use. In this case, you are strongly advised to go to a Samsung authorized repair center for a technician to check your equipment and replace it under warranty if the defect is found.

In this case, it may present a danger to you and your smartphone in the event of a short circuit.

How to avoid noise on your Samsung charger?

If your Samsung charger makes a noise because of a problem, you will have to find its origin in order to be able to solve it effectively.

Samsung charger making noise, what to do?

Check the electrical network

First of all, and even if this dysfunction is very rare, make sure that the noise made by your Samsung charger is not coming from the electrical installation and more specifically a false contact or a concern of tension. To do this, all you need to do is charge your smartphone on another wall outlet in your home. If the strange noise persists, you can also try to plug it into an outlet other than your home (at a friend's house, at your workplace, etc.).

If the noise stops when you change the outlet, the concern is with the outlet in question or your electrical network. Then contact a electrician to carry out a diagnosis and, if necessary, repair your installation. On the other hand, if your Samsung charger continues to make noise regardless of the power source, the problem is then with the charger or the USB port of your smartphone.

Check the condition of the Samsung charger that makes noise

In the vast majority of cases, when your Samsung charger makes a strange noise, it comes from the charger and therefore from adapter and / or USB cable. This is all the more true if you are using a low quality, incompatible or counterfeit charger because their components and their assembly are of lower quality than the genuine chargers. In addition, their sound insulation is much less efficient, hence the fact that the noise can be heard much more strongly. Know that the original Samsung chargers may also see parasitic noise appear as a result of a slight manufacturing defect or with wear.

For check if your Samsung charger is responsible for the noise, simply charge another phone with your charger. If the charger stops making noise when charging another phone, then the problem is with your smartphone. On the other hand, if the noise persists while charging another phone, then the problem is with your charger. In this case, test the charging cable but also the USB adapter separately to find the faulty accessory.

Note: Another way to test your charger is to charge your phone by plugging it in with another working charger. If the other charger doesn't make a sound, the problem is with your charger. If the other charger makes a noise, then the problem is with your phone.

We then recommend that you replace faulty USB adapter and / or charging cable to prevent short circuit or damage to your smartphone. Be careful to buy a quality charger, compatible (with the same charging capacity or at least not lower) and in the best case, original Samsung. This is in order to avoid any further problems or that you end up with a charger that makes noise again! If after testing the adapter, cable and electrical installation, the Samsung charger keeps making a weird noise, the problem can then come from the smartphone USB port. Even more so if you notice loading problems. Indeed, a bad contact may occur between the pins and receivers of the Samsung connector. And this may cause a strange sound such as ultrasound or buzzing to appear.

It is likely that this false contact is due to a obstructed USB port with accumulated dirt or dust. Then try to nettoyer the port but be careful, you have to be delicate! The connector is very fragile and you should not risk damaging it. To clean it you can then use a compressed air bomb without additives or a wooden toothpick. But for this latest version, be delicate, do not press or rub on the bottom of the connector.

If you charger Samsung always makes a parasitic noise that bothers you strongly after the previous checks and operations, we advise you to do diagnose your equipment by a technician by going to a Samsung authorized repair center.
