what to do when my Canon printer does not turn on

Restart your Canon printer

When your Canon printer no longer turns on, it may happen thata minor bug be the cause. So a forced restart procedure can do the trick to remove the malfunction and turn your device back on. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • If your printer has crashed but is showing signs of life, turn it off.
  • Unplug the printer and wait about 1 minute.
  • Hold down the "On" button and simultaneously reconnect the power cord.

If the restart procedure to work, your Canon printer should turn back on. If not, it is highly likely that a problem in the power supply circuit be the cause. To check it, perform the following operations.

Check the power

In the vast majority of cases, when a Canon printer no longer turns on the problem is with the power supply module or a malfunction in the power supply process. To verify this, you will need to perform various checks and manipulations.

First of all, it can happen that careless errors prevent your Canon printer from starting up. Make sure the printer power cables are plugged in properly and if you are using a multi-outlet, that the multi-outlet is turned on.

Then you will need check that the fuel system (wall outlet, power cord and power module) works correctly by following the different steps:

  1. Unplug your Canon printer by removing the cord from the wall outlet, then the cord from the back of your printer. If you have a printer with an external power supply, proceed in the same way and also unplug the intermediate cord located at the external power supply (intermediate between the printer and the socket).
  2. Plug another electrical device into the same wall outlet then turn it on.
    • If the device does not turn on, the wall outlet is no longer working. Then plug your Canon printer into another wall outlet.
    • If the wall outlet works, continue with the instructions.
  3. After you have unplug your printer for at least 1 minute, reconnect the cord to the back of your printer. Then plug your printer into the wall outlet. Attention, do not use multiple sockets! Your printer should always be plugged into a power outlet separate from other electronic devices.
  4. Check if the lights on your printer are on.
    • If the lights come on, try turning your Canon printer back on. In the event that it still refuses to start, it is very likely that the power cord is faulty. Then move on to the next part of our guide.
    • If the lights still do not come on, it is very likely that your Canon printer will no longer turn on due to the power supply module or a faulty component.

In any case, if after these manipulations your Canon printer still not responding, go to the final checks to try to revive her.

Check the power cords

If the problem persists and your Canon printer still does not turn on, the problem can also come from a damaged power cord. First of all, make sure that all the cords are correctly connected and that the connectors are compatible (you should never have to force to connect the cables).

Then, to check that the problem is with the power cord, you can realize two different tests. Choose which one you can run based on the hardware you have:

  • Test your power cord by plugging it into another working electrical device.
    • If the other working electronic device does not turn back on, your cord is defective.
    • If the other electronic device turns on again, your cord is not defective and the problem is most likely with a defective component in your Canon printer.
  • Connect another power cord with the same connectors as your printer's to your Canon printer.
    • If your printer turns on again, your original cable is defective and it will need to be replaced.
    • If the printer does not turn back on, the problem is most likely due to a faulty component in your Canon printer.

  1. Hello
My printer (Canon PIXMA MG 7500 series) only turns on very briefly overnight, then it clicks a bit and then immediately turns off.
He is already 6 years old.
It's not the catch. I don't have a spare cable. So I don't know if it's the power cord.
What do you think, is he tired of old age?

    • Hello,
The power cable may indeed be the cause, but it could also be the turntable. Unfortunately, this is electronic wear and the repair will be relatively high given the age of the printer. You can still try to replace the power cord if you find a compatible one. Good luck

A false contact related to a manufacturing problem perhaps... If you have just bought it, do not hesitate to exercise your guarantee!

    • Hello,
When did you buy the printer? If less than 2 years do the warranty work?
Does the printer display an error message?
Check that the power cord is fully seated in the connector.

  4. My g41111 multifunction gun turned off at any moment and since then it hasn't turned on again, I've had it for just over two years, the warranty just ended, no doubt every day they do more disposable stuff, my previous printer was an Epson and it lasted me 10 years and that's not even a quarter🤦 I guess that's the brand anyway

    • Hello,
      Have you tried a reset?
If not, there is certainly a problem with the electronic board… Your printer is under warranty. In this case, contact the service department of the reseller store or Canon.
