How do I reset my CANAL + decoder?

Resetting or "Hard Reset" makes it possible to remove major malfunctions and bugs that an electrical device may encounter. As you will have understood, when you encounter a problem with your Canal + decoder and it no longer works correctly, resetting will probably be the solution to your problem. There are two methods to reset the decoder: partial or total. Find out in this article what they consist of but also how to reset your Canal Plus decoder depending on the case model you own.

How to partially reset the Canal Plus decoder?

Before proceeding with a total reset of your Canal + decoder, it is advisable to try to resolve the malfunction using a electric reboot and / or partial reset. Indeed, these two methods which allow you to restart the system of your Canal Plus decoder, have the main advantage of keep your settings and personalized data unlike Hard Reset which performs a factory restore.

The procedures that we will see below work on all Canal + boxes: + The Cube, 4K UHD or Mini decoder.

Electric reboot of your Canal Plus decoder

First, perform an electric reboot or electrical restart of your CANAL + decoder. This procedure allows you to restart the decoder software and is therefore sometimes sufficient to fix minor bugs preventing it from functioning properly. To restart your Canal Plus decoder electrically, proceed as follows:

  1. Disconnect the Canal + decoder from its power supply
  2. Wait 1 minute
  3. Reconnect the decoder power

Wait until the decoder turns on again.

Partial reset of your decoder

La partial reset of your Canal Plus decoder also allows restart the box system as well as clean up some bugs or malfunctions impacting its proper functioning. On the other hand, to carry out this manipulation, you will need to have access to the menu of your decoder and to your TV screen. Yes the Canal + decoder does not light up at all, you will then have to go directly to the total reset.

For partially reset your CANAL + decoder, proceed as follows:

  1. With the Canal remote control, click on " Menu » 
  2. Then go to the " MyTV " then " Settings » 
  3. Select " My decoder " then " Update » 
  4. Then click on " Relocation " Where " Reset » 
  5. Enter your Parent Code with 4 digits and validate
  6. Then select the " Partial reset "Or" Partial resettlement " 

Following this partial reset of your Canal Plus decoder, it is advisable to do a manual update from your remote control: Menu -> MyTV -> Settings -> My decoder -> Update -> System. The update takes about ten minutes.

How to factory reset the CANAL + decoder

How to reset my Canal Plus decoder

If the preceding operations have not resolved the malfunction, then you must completely reset your Canal Plus decoder. The total reset restores the factory settings of the decoder. Thus, this procedure makes it possible to remove all big bugs and malfunctions which may have appeared as the decoder was used. In other words, it does not deep clean the decoder system.

Warning, the operation of resetting the Canal + decoder has several consequences since the parameters are reset and it is as if you have just received it:

  • First, think about unplug the external hard drive if you use one. Otherwise, it will be formatted at the same time as your decoder and you will therefore lose all your recordings. To disconnect it, press the STOP button located at the bottom left of your remote control. A message tells you that the hard drive has been disconnected. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the hard drive to the Canal + decoder.
  • Then you will lose custom settings. You will be able to set them again after the reset.
  • Finally, on certain generations of decoder, the remote control is out of sync and it will be necessary then that you pair it again (when the procedure does not start automatically).

Depending on the model of your Canal Plus decoder, here are the reset procedures corresponding:

Resetting the Canal Plus decoder or the 4K UHD Canal + decoder

To reset your Canal Plus decoder or 4K UHD decoder, proceed as follows:

  1. Turn on your TV
  2. Switch off the Canal + decoder using the ON / OFF button which is on the back of the case
  3. Hold down the button - (less) on the front
  4. While continuing to hold down the - button, turn on the decoder with the button ON / OFF
  5. Release the button - when thepairing screen where the " Canal logo »Is displayed on your screen

Then follow the instructions that appear and verify that the procedure completes. If the procedure fails, try the same manipulation but pressing the button + (more) this time. If this still does not work, then try the same procedure, this time maintaining them. +/- keys.

If you have access to the Menu of your decoder and to your TV screen, you can also carry out a total reset of the decoder via the Parameters :

With the Canal remote control, click on Menu> MaTV > Settings > My decoder > Update > Relocation ou Reset > Enter your Parent Code with 4 digits and validate> Full reset.

Resetting the Le Cube Canal + decoder

The operation for the factory reset of the Canalsat or + Le Cube decoder consists of:

  1. turn on your TV 
  2. Switch off the decoder + The Cube with the ON / OFF button at the back of the case 
  3. Hold the P + button pressed while switching on the decoder with the ON / OFF button
  4. Release the P + button when the banner " INST ”Is displayed.

Then check that the reset procedure ends and that the scrolling banner "INIT" go all the way. If the procedure fails, repeat it again, this time pressing the button P- and release it when the banner " FA: Ct Appears on the screen.

Resetting the Canal + Mini Decoder 

To reset the Canal + Mini Decoder, proceed as follows:

  1. Switch off the mini decoder with the ON / OFF switch located at the back of the box
  2. Switch on the decoder with the ON / OFF switch
  3. When the CANAL logo is displayed, press and hold the bluetooth button which is located on the left side of the case
  4. When the CANAL logo reappears, release the Bluetooth button

The procedure for resetting your Canal + Mini Decoder will then start.

If the resetting your Canal Plus decoder did not work and the problem is still present, then call the CANAL + customer service. They will be able to carry out a more in-depth diagnosis and if the failure turns out to be too severe, they will then proceed to the replacement of your case. To reach them:
